Culturally Sensitive Grief Groups

There will be four groups, a youth and adult group for Uniacke Square and a youth and adult group for Mulgrave Park with groups being held on Tuesday afternoons/evenings.

All groups will be led by members of the African Nova Scotian community, such as social workers and pastors, who have been trained by Dr. Barb Hamilton-Hinch (Professor in the School of Health Performance at Dalhousie) and Roy Ellis (Grief and Bereavement Coordinator at NS Health Authority) to be a grief support specifically.

Though the groups were created for those affected by gun violence and homicides, anyone drawn to the groups or simply in need of a space to ‘let it out’ are invited and encouraged to attend.

Meet and Greets for folks to meet the facilitators will take place in the communities of Uniacke Square and Mulgrave Park on May 9th and May 11th respectively to provide an opportunity for community members to meet the people who will be leading the groups and get more information.
